Assistant Director of Financial Aid and Student Employment

Job Summary:

The Assistant Director of Financial Aid and Student Employment has responsibility for the direction and management of the University's student employment program. The individual in this position leads his/her colleagues in the planning, direction and coordination of services and programs related to the on- and off-campus Federal Work Student Program and the USF student employment program. The goal of student employment is to provide services to student employees and to faculty and staff colleagues who employ them that facilitate student learning and the achievement of office/department goals. The Assistant Director must be aware of local, state and national issues and laws that will affect students and the University in relation to student employment. The Assistant Director for Student Employment works with colleagues throughout USF to develop and implement University student employment policies and procedures. The Assistant Director reports to the Director of Financial Aid Services and Operations.

Job Responsibilities:

-Directs the University’s student employment programs
-Hires, trains and supervises both support and student assistant colleagues in the office
-Leads the development, review and implementation of University student employment policies and procedures
-Designs, develops and produces all printed and web-based materials related to student employment, including forms and manuals, and all agreements mandated by federal, state and local regulations
-Oversees the continual development and maintenance of the Student Employment web site
- Reviews and approves student assistant job descriptions, classifications and salary ranges assuring equity and parity across the University
-Administers the Federal Work-Study Program, assuring compliance with all federal regulations and with the University’s student employment policies and procedures; negotiates and monitors all off-campus agreements
-Collaborates with the University’s Learning Center on the Federal America Reads/Counts Program to assure compliance with all regulations and the provision of an effective and efficient program
-Assures compliance with Federal, State and local employment regulations, including collection and verification of the INS Form I-9
-Serves as the primary liaison to the University’s Payroll and Human Resources Departments

Minimum Requirements:

-Bachelor’s degree required.
-Three years minimum increasingly responsible experience in personnel services, student services, and/or student employment
-Excellent written and oral communication skills.
-Strong interpersonal skills with an ability to advise both student employees and their supervisors.
-Ability to lead a team and contribute to the overall smooth operation of a service environment.
-Excellent organizational skills with an ability to organize and prioritize multiple complex projects and tasks simultaneously.
-Familiarity with the academic environment, policies and procedures.
-Familiarity with web page design and maintenance, and proficient with personal computers, including programs such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
-Ability to think creatively and strategically.
-Strong customer service orientation.
-Understanding of and commitment to USF’s Vision, Mission and Values

Additional Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

-Serves as the primary resource for student employees and their supervisors in all matters relating to University and Federal Work-Study policies and procedures
-Develops and delivers workshops on employment and employment related matters
-Provides leadership for the University in regard to student employment through the assessment, planning and preparation of recommendations regarding policy, procedure and services changes
-Counsels students and parents on the Federal Work-Study program and other student financial aid programs
-Main contact for Graduate program offices regarding financial aid inquiries
-Receives and posts Graduate departmental scholarships
-Coordinates graduate financial aid processing with financial aid staff

Other Responsibilities:
-Other duties as assigned; some evening and Saturday hours required
