Loyola University New Orleans seeks a dynamic, energetic, leader passionate about helping student succeed to be the founding Director of Advising. The Director of Advising is responsible for coordinating academic advising efforts to help students persist with special emphasis on supporting all first year students, undeclared sophomore students, and students who are otherwise identified as being at-risk. The Director is responsible for managing and developing a comprehensive, cross-unit plan for holistic student advising including academic, career and personal guidance, consistent with the university's strategic plan and the Ignatian pedagogical emphasis on educating the whole person. The Director will oversee a team of rotating staff advisors and develop an engaging program of professional development for faculty engaged in advising. In addition, the Director will be responsible for developing robust systems and procedures for tracking student satisfaction with advising and develop programs in partnership with the Director of Retention and Student Success, that will help ensure the success of at-risk-populations. This position requires collaboration with Information Technology to design technological support services and the Institutional Research office to obtain accurate data to implement campus-wide assessment of advising and retention efforts and communicate and employ the results of assessment. The position is housed in the Student Success Center and reports to the Senior Director of the Student Success Center.


QUALIFICATIONS: A minimum of 5 years of advising experience in the higher education context. A minimum of 2 years of supervisory/managerial experience. A Master’s Degree in Education, Counseling, Higher Education or related field is required. A PhD is strongly preferred. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong time management, organizational, and leadership skills. Dynamic interpersonal skills and a genuine interest in students and their persistence. Ability to work some evenings and weekends, as required.
