Associate Director, Media Relations

Position Purpose:

Position assists the assistant athletics director for media relations in all aspects of the publicity and public relations facets of the department of athletics. Responsibilities include serving as a media contact for assigned sports, creating content for the department's website and social media accounts, coordinating media coverage for home and road athletic event.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

A. Assist in all media relations, promotions and external communications for the department of athletics and its 20 Division I sports.
• Independently develop and manage a public relations strategy for assigned sports, which may include baseball, men’s soccer and men’s and women’s tennis

• Produce content, including written and video production assistance, for the department’s website for assigned sports.

• Assist in creating content for the social media platforms for the department including graphic design

• Serve as the broadcast liaison for assigned sports

• Initiate feature story ideas about assigned teams and arrange all coach and player interviews.

• Coordinate statistical and information databases for all athletic teams and individuals, and maintain the history and records pages for the webpages of assigned sports.
B. Coordinate and oversee all media relations operations at athletics events for assigned sports.
• Recruit, train, supervise and process payroll paperwork for game assistants and student workers for press box, press row, official scorekeeping and statistical crews for assigned home events.

• Coordinate services to meet the needs of all media attending assigned home events.

• Act as the department liaison with media for all events, home and on the road.
C. Abide by all conference, department and NCAA regulations and assist to ensure departmental compliance.
D. Other duties as assigned
Provides limited direction to student employees.
1. Recommends initiatives and implements changes to improve quality and services.

2. Identifies and determines cause of problems; develops and presents recommendations for improvement of established processes and practices.

3. Maintains contact with customers and solicits feedback for improved services.

4. Maximizes productivity through use of appropriate tools; planned training and performance initiatives.

5. Researches and develops resources that create timely and efficient workflow.

6. Prepares progress reports; informs supervisor of project status; and deviation from goals. Ensures completeness, accuracy and timeliness of all operational functions.

7. Prepares and submits reports as requested and required.

8. Develops and implements guidelines to support the functions of the unit.

Advanced knowledge in publications and electronic media.

• Working knowledge in Adobe InDesign and Photoshop; video editing experience is a plus

• Working knowledge of statistical software (i.e. Automated Scorebook) is helpful.

• Willingness to work nights and weekends


• Ability to work in a fast-paced, time-sensitive environment.

Education and/or Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree required.
• Minimum of 2 years experience.

Salary Information: $20.65 - $23.74 per hour (commensurate with experience)
